Hematology is a medical discipline that deals with diseases of the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic organs. Mainly due to the relatively easy sampling of these tissues, hematology tends to be at the forefront of medical development, and this has certainly been true for the last decades. Although hematologic diseases are commonly designated as "rare diseases", they offer valuable insight into the pathologic processes and potential therapeutic interventions to correct them. This knowledge can then accelerate development in other areas of tumor biology and medicine.

In this special issue, we welcome articles from the fields of both pediatric and adult hematology and most certainly from the borderline of "adolescent young adults”, a rapidly emerging field in hematology. We would like to publish the results of original research as well as comprehensive review papers detailing recent progress on novel pathobiology, targeted and immunotherapy of hematologic diseases – lymphoid in myeloid pathologies and their therapies. In addition, as treatment philosophy and methods of the management of pediatric solid tumors exhibit a considerable overlap with the treatment of pediatric leukemias, publications from this area are also welcome. Based on a way of "from bench to bedside" thinking, we feel important to receive quality manuscripts on transitioning laboratory and preclinical results in retrospective clinical trials and early prospective institutional and nation-wide cohorts that lay on the way for designing and performing larger multi-center, multi-national clinical trials. In addition, we are interested in the data gathered with the most recent techniques, such as next-generation sequencing and liquid biopsy studies. In the case of bioinformatic manuscripts, we would like to see experimental or multiple database data verification. While our emphasis is on malignant hematology, manuscripts dealing with non-malignant diseases are also welcome.
