ABSTRACT=Expression of stem cell markers by tumor cells may be associated with prognosis. Results on triplenegative breast cancers are scant. We investigated the expression of the following stem cell markers: ALDH1, AnnexinA1, CD44, CD117, CD166, Nanog and oct-4 in a series of 106 triple-negative breast carcinomas and found that most of them were not associated with survival, but the lack of ALDH1 expression was an independent prognosticator of disease-free survival, and diffuse CD44 staining was an independent prognosticator of overall survival.
