Clinically, they are classified as low-grade to high-grade (I to IV) GBMs, which have limited effective therapy methods and poor curative effect for malignant GBM accompanied by the deepening of research and the development of technology, a large number of monocytes, mainly macrophages and microglia cells (MG), have been found in the tumor tissue of GBM. Both those two monocytes play an important role in the genesis and development of GBM. Macrophages are recruited during tumorigenesis, while MG are present in the brain during embryonic development. Interestingly, the accumulation of these monocytes was inversely associated with adult GBM survival, but not with childhood GBM. In this paper, the heterogeneity of MG in tumor lesions was analyzed by single-cell RNA-seq data, so as to explore the roles of different MG subtype during the genesis and progression of GBM.
